This book is dedicated by parents, "to each band and tall flag student whose willingness to work long and hard, whose commitment to fellow band members and whose dedication to musical achievement has contributed to the development of admirable character traists that will enrich and bless your adulthood."
Santa Monica High School (SAMOHI) was founded in 1891 and moved to its current location in 1912. An classical Greek ampitheater was built at the school in 1921 to honor the Santa Monicans who served in World War I. The Auditorium (now Barnum Hall Theater) was built in 1937 by the Works Progress Administration (WPA) to be both a school performance space and a Civic gathering place for all of Santa Monica.
The High School currenlty boasts five wind bands, the "Viking" Marching Band, two jazz bands, five string orchestras, two full-size traveling orchestras, five choirs, multiple chamber groups, and a color guard.
